here i am

After having spent the weekend at the BMO Center in Calgary (reminiscing about Stampede's past...) learning about real estate, I am now back in the flat land of Saskatchewan. We made it home in record time last night, doubled both by our weird side road we found, and the speed des was allowed to go since backroads usually don't have anyone on them. However, once home, we discovered our keys didn't work, and waking up the landlord at 11 when he's already sleeping isn't do fun. Neither is standing in the cold, trying to jimmy a lock, with our puppy whining beside us. Like I didn't know it was cold, or want inside either!

Learning about real estate investing was really eye-opening. We learned a lot of tricks, and how to invest in real estate safely and smartly. It's all about the cash flow baby! haha. Now onto making my personal belize collage. What this means is putting together a collage of all of the things I want to accomplish in my life. A reminder of why I want to start investing in real estate to begin with -basically what this financial freedom will do for me, and why/what I will do with it. It was reassuring to know that all the calculations added up for the property we have already purchased. I was a little nervous as we were doing them, but it looks like someone was watching out for us!

What this now means is that I have a BUNCH more planning to do. Not to mention putting up multiple ads on kijiji for both our suite and garage and the suite I'm in. I'm also making a folder on our finances, and real estate bookkeeping as well as one on our current property. I must learn how to think like an investor. We also have to find an accountant, and set up more bank accounts for business. Holy moly lots to do this week.. I guess it kind of is a good thing I'm not working!

I wanted to leave the post with a picture of our adorable puppy (almost a dog... wah). I've done some more experimenting with my camera. Again, with editing it would be much better. All in due time.

On a healthy note.. put the following in a mug, microwave for one minute.. and you have an instant, sugar-free muffin.

1/4 cup ground flax
1 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp coconut oil
1 egg
1 packet stevia

Saw it on doctor oz, and totally want to try it! I'll let you know the results!

winter winds

I'm not sure why, but lately my days off have been way too lazy for my liking. It's nice to be able to have days off, but when you're home alone all day, you kind of reserve yourself to doing nothing. I baked and worked out yesterday, and am doing laundry today, but I still feel like all i'm doing is sitting on the couch watching TV and on my computer. Granted, "on my computer" means looking up things for the wedding or house reno's, but I still feel like a lazy bum!

Today we have our first marriage prep session, and I'm getting nervous. What if they tell us we will break up soon, then what do we do? Kidding, they wont say that, even if they thought it. I'm looking forward to seeing what we are going to talk about and get up to. Should be interesting to say the least.

Next weekend I have my Moose Jaw wedding shower. Who would EVER have thought that I would one day be having a wedding shower in Moose Jaw.  There are going to be a lot of people there - mostly Marilyn's friends, but my mom and a couple of my friends are coming as well. I'm pretty excited to have a get together in Saskatchewan with numerous people there that's all about ME. haha, I feel like I don't know too many people in this province, so it will be a nice change to have people all in one place that I know, and that are there for me. Sounds selfish, but I'm allowed to be every once in a while!

Today's picture is one I took this summer of the new surfboard that Kevin bought for his new boat. The one below this is a picture of Desmond wakeboarding. They both remind me of last summer, and as luck would have it -  I had the best time last summer! Vicky and I spent a week out at the lake on the boat.. it was perfect, and I got the best tan! It was also the summer we went to Camp Arbuckle and got engaged. Other not-so-nice things happened, but its best not to think about the bad, and instead concentrate on the good! And I have so much more good in my life.

I just can't wait for it to be summer again. Not only will I be getting married, but summer means no more snow and cold. I don't do cold well. And no, that does not mean I simply need more meat on my bones, it means that I don't do cold well. I'm always cold. always. Coupled with my poor circulation and coordination this girl has trouble in winter! Which is probably why I try to avoid heels in winter at all costs, as cute as they may look... but I digress...

I don't know about everyone else, but I have always wondered what it would have been like to be extremely rich or extremely poor. How different would you be as a person? I almost think the middle class have it best - they (typically) work hard, and appreciate what they earn. They aren't stuck up like the extremely rich, and they aren't like the poor. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have more money, but I feel like the middle class, or even upper middle class is one of the best places to be. Being middle class or working class, if you will, growing up has taught me the value of money and life in general. Money can't buy you happiness, but it sure as hell can make you comfortable enough to find happiness. I've learned that things aren't just given to you, you have to work hard and earn them. I wasn't given a brand new car for my 16th birthday, were you? That said, if I have the money, I'll totally spoil my kids.

top of the world

I am officially an RN. Years of work and one stupid 3 hour test later, I have passed and joined the ranks of the Canadian Registered Nurse. No more hours spent worrying about my test results - behind me those minutes lie!

It feels good to be DONE. Now just to find a permanent job, as opposed to this casual business. I'm really blessed in the fact that they pre-book me for shifts, but when I am called 3 times in one day to cancel some of my shifts... it starts to become a little bit more treacherous territory - with a new house, and a wedding, money is not just something thats "kind of" needed these days.

Oh yeah, new house. Just a home inspection this sunday, and we are good to go. Ah, so exciting... now to tell my current landlord.. I'm so not good at confrontation. When it comes to people I love, great at confrontation. But people of so-called "authority" not-so-much. God give me strength. Cute little innocent, soft spoken blonde seems to come out on the cusp of confrontation. Other than that... kind of bitchy, opinionated blonde (still pretty cute though?) seems to come out. In the future, I'm going to try and find a balance between the two.

I honestly feel on top of the world. Fiance, puppy, amazing family and family to be, RN status, new house, new job, wedding in 114 days (totally not counting). What is there not to be thankful for? Well, getting rid of this snow might help as well.. but no one can have that much going for them at once, right? I just stopped today and thought... even though there are some (pardon my french .. btw, kind of hate that saying) really shitty things happening, I have so much in my life that I need to give thanks for. God, or whomever is up there watching over me, is good. Great, really. As I am cleaning my house today, I'll remember that life is good, even though cleaning really sucks. I want a maid, so badly.

I've decided to share another picture I took with this post. Maybe I'll try to keep sharing pictures I've been taking with every post - seeing as how I love it, and maybe it will help me to become better at actually taking some. Who knows, maybe it will actually become a hobby of mine, this whole picture thing, instead of something I love, but don't do very often.

sitting, waiting, wishing

Currently sitting, waiting, wishing for my RN results to come in the mail. I can't take it, and have checked our mailbox 4 times this morning. I just wish I knew exactly when the mailman came. I'm going to throw myself into P90x plyometrics, even with this darn cold and sore throat, so that I don't have to take it anymore!

say when

4 nights. That's all I have to say about that, as I am currently trying to forget how much they sucked, so that when they come along in again in another couple of weeks, I endure them willingly again. Like childbirth. Except worse. (kidding)

Can you believe its March already? I've been working at my career for 2 months, holy time flies! My wedding is in 4 months .. crap so much to plan still. Better get on that .......  or continue writing this blog post. The latter involves sitting on a couch, with my puppy by my side, and a TV in the background. I think I'll choose the lazy option. However, I still have to send out my invites. They have been made and in envelopes for like a month, I just need to print the RSVP insert. Motivation where are you?

Today is cleaning day. I need to vacuum, mop, dust and do laundry. Not to mention get a workout and dog walk in there. I'm doing such a fine job already... sitting on the couch blogging falls under which of those categories exactly? I'm thinking the workout one... my fingers seem to be flying around the keyboard? I'll probably just get the laundry, workout and dog part done. Oh well. I also have tomorrow off.

I changed the name of my blog again. This time, to reflect my life. I feel like I was always trying to find an inspiring, or edgy blog title, and that it never really said anything about me. Today, on about my 4th cup of tea I realized two things. First, my life is really defined by tea. I'm having a good day if there is tea being made, or atleast nearby. Second, my mother is to blame for my addiction. Being bottlefed tea really gave me a head start on most of my peers in the caffeine dependency department. Therefore, I think my new blog title is extremely fitting of me, and a much more apt description of my life. Which is really what this blog is about. It's not interesting, or trendy. It's simply about my life. As interesting and trendy as it is not, I love it. Maybe I'm thinking way too much into the title of something that maybe my fiance and mom read, but they say its all in the name, and that's my excuse.

As you should know, if you actually read my blog. I was at Des's dad Kevin's farm this summer during harvest. We brought food to the farmers, and man did they eat it up. I spent an afternoon taking some pictures of the cool things they have out there: the old gas pumps, trucks, buildings, wood, etc. and thought I'd share one of my favourites to get into the spirit of photography as I am going for my first ever class on it this saturday. It's a beginner class, but I'm hoping I can learn how to better edit my photo's as it really makes such a huge difference in how they turn out. Right now I'm using iphoto, and I'm thinking it simply won't make the cut. I'd really like to start taking up photography as a hobby, as I really love doing it.

Don't you think it could be so much nicer with the right editing program? Well I do!

one and only

I'm wondering if falling in love with someone else counts as cheating on your fiance? If it does... guilty I guess? By falling in love I'm of course referring to my feelings after watching adele both perform and receive her best album grammy at the grammy's. Not only was her performance amazingly beautiful, but the fact that she highlighted her snotty nose in her acceptance speech makes her, in my mind, not only incredibly british, but also my new celebrity girl crush, replacing the likes of Rachel McAdams, Reese Witherspoon and Natalie Portman. I tend to crush on the "cute" ones rather than the astoundingly "sexy" or "beautiful" ones, but I digress.

Working on your birthday (which I did, btw... 12 hours) is made so much easier when you have such an amazing fiance to come home to. Waiting for me in the car for me after work was my little saskatoon family.. he brought Maya along to greet the birthday girl! At home was a new starbucks double-walled mug (the BEST mug ever.. seriously, if you want hot coffee all day buy it) filled with my favorite, and only kind of jellybelly's I like, and the best part of the gift, my very own love note. Thoughtful, isn't he?

That night one of our couple friends, Meghan and Colin came over to drink wine and play settlers. I know what you're thinking.. best birthday ever. Surprisingly I was in for yet another gift! M&C (i'm betting mostly M, but engaged they be, and things now come from "them"). They got me a 3 month subscription to something called "Luxe Box," which I am so incredibly excited for. It's this thing where you sign up for a monthly "subscription" or yearly, or whatever, and every month a gift full of beauty product samples is sent to you in the mail. It's like your birthday every month! I can't wait for my first month. However, I think next month is already sold out, so I might have to wait until May.....

Speaking of waiting, I have been waiting since January 5th for my engagement ring to come back to me. I feel like I am pre-engagement again, just WAITING for the day Desmond would ask me to marry him, and us to stop being "engaged to be engaged" or, his made up state of our relationship to get me to a)shutup and b)not expect a proposal. A diamond fell out of the band, and it's getting repaired, but I'm getting impatient!! The only thing that keeps me holding on, is that I know it's getting re-plated and fully cleaned before it comes back, and will look like new. I think I can, I think I can....

Being MY mother, I wasn't surprised by the bombardment of old pictures my cellphone received this evening. That being said, I'll end my blog post and bombard the internet with one of said pictures... just because I am HER daughter. Cute.

here we are

Having written my last entry in the stone ages, I apparently have a lot to catch my avid readers up on. I started my new job in the neonatal (baby) intensive care unit January 3rd. Other than being absolutely in love with my puppy and fiance, I am completely in love with my new job as well. I actually like being at work, and the day seems to just fly by. I am not sure how long it will take for that to be reversed, but I'm really loving my life right now. And making money.. that doesn't hurt either. Time to start paying back all of those debts!! greeaaaaaaaat.

Des moved in to my place, along with our baby Maya. Being parents to an 8 week old puppy is a lot more work than we both expected, and rather frustrating at times, but I think we are both starting to get the hang of it. For being 12 weeks, our puppy is super smart! She already sits when people come to the door, to come inside from going to the bathroom, and when she wants anything at a hand signal. She also knows "stay" "in your bed" "no" (that is said a lot) "paw" "down" off of things (didn't think that one through.. laying down is going to have to be "lay") and her name. She has the best temperament and is also super cute to boot! The only things we REALLY need to work on are getting her completely housetrained, and her separation anxiety. Poor pup misses us when we leave! Our shoebox of an apartment is finally feeling like a home with them both around. I feel like I have my little family again!

We've done a lot when it comes to wedding planning in the past month, and it looks like only the final small details are left to figure out. Basically the hardest part: the logistics! I am so happy with plans so far, and we finished the invitations this saturday. I LOVE them. Pretty and rustic, just like our wedding.. and our life really. I'm pretty, he's rustic (seeing as how is IS from Moose Jaw. . ) ha. So if you get one of these babies in the mail, feel pretty lucky! Or, at least, keep them out of the trash longer than say a day please!

I also get to have my first fitting with my dress on the 17th. I can't wait! One more thing to check off the list!

Another thing we've really been into this last month is the biggest loser. I have no idea why watching hugely obese people workout and argue is entertaining, but it sure it. Oh the drama among people trying to shed 2 of me of themselves get up to. It's really ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome.

Sitting here drinking my green tea, hanging out with my dog while des is playing hockey with his friends really makes me feel content in life. I do wish I had more friends in the city, but now that I'm working I feel like I'll have no trouble making them! I'm glad some of des's old friends moved to Saskatoon though,  I really think he was starting to go stir crazy. I can relate... sometimes I get frustrated with myself, can't imagine what he was starting to think of me!! haha.

This afternoon we are meeting with Manulife Financial to talk about some investments and savings we can get started on. I'm not sure pensions will be around when we want to retire, so better get saving at this ripe old age! haha. We will also be watching the superbowl somewhere, whether its at home or at a friends.. I will be bored by the constant stopping and starting of fat men running "plays" they call football none-the-less.

It is simply an experience to be enjoyed, with no other purpose then that
